UMUAHIA – The Abia State Government has approved a N100,000 monthly running cost for secondary schools and N50,000 for primary schools across the state’s 17 local government areas.

Additionally, the government has introduced welfare packages for teachers posted to rural communities to encourage efficiency and align with the Otti administration’s vision for the education sector.

Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Education, Professor Kenechukwu Nwosu, announced the initiative at Government House, Umuahia, emphasizing that education remains a top priority for the administration. He highlighted the government’s commitment to digitalizing education, training teachers, and enhancing infrastructure.

Nwosu also revealed that the state has trained 200 master trainers and 2,000 master teachers to improve technical and vocational education, digital learning, child development, and professional development.

“We are transforming our education system to meet global standards. Secondary schools now receive N100,000, and primary schools N50,000 for running costs. Teachers in rural areas receive financial incentives and other welfare packages to motivate them,” Nwosu stated.

He further disclosed that education supervisors will oversee schools to ensure quality teaching and learning, aligning with Governor Otti’s vision of global competitiveness for students.

Regarding security, Nwosu acknowledged challenges in safeguarding over 16,000 public schools but affirmed that the government is working with vigilante groups and local communities to enhance school security.

“Education is now compulsory in Abia State. Every child must be in school. We are committed to maintaining our No.1 position in education and ensuring quality education for all,” he added.
