Anne Hathaway Rumored To Play Janet Van Dyne In ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

A rumor making the rounds online today claims the Oscar winner could step into the role of Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp, in Avengers: Secret Wars. The buzz, shared by MovieBlogGeek on Instagram, suggests Hathaway’s Janet would join a fresh Avengers lineup, either as a one-off appearance in the Multiverse Saga finale or as a longer play that carries her into Marvel’s future Mutant Saga.

Nothing is confirmed, and Marvel hasn’t commented. But fans are already doing the math, and it’s a fun equation.

Here’s the wrinkle: the MCU already has a Janet van Dyne. Michelle Pfeiffer brought the Quantum Realm survivor to life in Ant-Man and the Wasp, popped up for the Avengers: Endgame funeral, and went full action hero in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. So is Marvel recasting? Or, in true Secret Wars fashion, is this a variant plucked from another corner of the multiverse? With Battleworld stitching realities together, a Hathaway-shaped Janet isn’t exactly a stretch.

It would also be a full-circle superhero moment for Hathaway, who stole scenes as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012. Since then, she’s stayed impressively busy, and 2026 alone has put her back in Miranda Priestly’s orbit with The Devil Wears Prada 2 and in Nolan’s The Odyssey. Adding a glamorous, sharp-witted founding Avenger to that résumé? Very on brand.

Avengers: Secret Wars is set to hit theaters December 17, 2027, one year after Avengers: Doomsday arrives this December. Until Marvel speaks, file this one firmly under “rumor,” but consider our wings officially fluttering.
