DAMATURU – The Yobe State Police Command has concluded a sensitization campaign and stakeholders’ engagement with members of the scrap and waste dealers/vendors in Potiskum Local Government Area.
The initiative, directed by Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, aims to address concerns over recent incidents involving scrap dealers and promote security in the state.
The engagement brought together members of the National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN), government representatives from 17 Local Government Areas, and zonal coordinators from the three senatorial districts. NASWDEN plans to register and document all scrap dealers nationwide, creating a database with biometric information for easy identification.
NASWDEN’s registration exercise aims to curb illegal activities and promote a smooth-operating industry.
Police Public Relations Officer PPRO SP Dungus Abdulkarim in a statement said that a task force, “Operation Say No to Vandalism,” has been inaugurated to eliminate criminal activities and prevent double taxation on highways. Enhanced collaboration between scrap dealers and law enforcement agencies is expected to boost security in the state.
